Q. What is Co-location?

In general, colocation (often spelled "colocation" or "co-location") is used to mean the provision of space for a customer's telecommunications equipment on the service provider's premises. For example, a Web site owner could place the site's own computer servers on the premises of the Internet service provider (ISP) who provides co-location hosting services.

Q. Who needs Co-location hosting?

Customers who require full control over all aspects of their website and the way it operates, including supply of hardware - are best suited for co-location hosting.

Q. Who actually supplies the server?

When using co-location providers, like Netcetera, the server actually belongs to you, the customer. Normally, this entails a server being completely configured and loaded with information, being delivered to the co-location provider ready to go.

Q. If something goes wrong with my server hardware, who fixes it?

Your server hardware vendor will offer a warranty - and we keep a good relationship with local suppliers of DELL/HP kit.

Q. Is there a limit to the size of my server?

There are limitations and pricing differences in relation to the size of your server(s). For example, rack mount servers come in several sizes depending on the manufacturer and the hardware contained within. A 1U server is half the size of a 2U server; hence it takes up less physical space in a rack, leaving room for more servers. As such, 1U servers are less expensive to co-locate than 2U servers.

Q. Why should I colocate instead of renting a dedicated server?

Colocation can be a substantial money saver for savvy hosters. You pay only the hardware’s base costs and avoid markups by middlemen. You can also buy exactly what you need and not be forced into servers that are incompatible with your applications.

Q. How much space do I get?

A full cabinet contains 42-U of cabinet space. A half cabinet contains 21-U of cabinet space. Each U of cabinet space is the equivalent of 1.75 inches in height. Our cabinets are the standard 19" wide and 36" deep. The rail mounts are 32.75" from front to back at it's furthest distance. Single server solutions are provided with 2U (3.5") of height.

Q. How do I ship my equipment to you?

You can either bring your equipment in person or have it shipped to us. If you choose to ship your equipment, please fill out our Equipment Shipment Form and follow all the instructions.
