Cloud Computing Without Compromise From Netcetera
New Online Application Platform Provides Scalable, Easily Managed Resources On Demand
Isle of Man, THE BRITISH ISLES, 24 February 2009
Netcetera, one of Europe's leading managed hosting and data centre providers, launches its new Cloud Platform at Data Centre World today. The new platform enables businesses to design, build, manage and scale their entire IT infrastructure – all from a web browser.
Netcetera’s new Cloud Platform makes it simple for businesses to build their online application environment and manage the applications themselves, slashing the time taken to deploy applications to minutes when compared with installing them on a physical server. It’s also highly scalable, making it ideal for Web 2.0 businesses that may need to grow quickly and scale out their infrastructure.
Netcetera’s Cloud Platform is based on the Applogic grid operating system for online applications. Applogic replaces expensive and difficult-to-integrate IT infrastructure such as firewalls, load balancers, servers and storage area networks (SANs) with a grid of pre-integrated, pre-tested and self-contained software components called virtual appliances.
Each appliance runs in its own virtual environment, with its own operating system, and appears as a separate physical server to the software that sits inside the appliance. All the code, data and infrastructure required to run applications are packaged into a single logical entity which can be viewed through a graphical user interface, making it easy to view and manage the application environment. Applogic includes several popular open source applications, including Bugzilla, Twiki, SugarCRM and Zimbra, which are pre-integrated and ready to run.
Netcetera’s Chief Technical Officer, Tim Cass, said, “Our new Cloud Platform puts businesses in full control of their application environment, enabling them to scale on demand and deliver security and business continuity for all applications.”
“Because applications exist in a virtual environment, with no dependence on specific hardware of any kind, it means that the applications themselves are completely self-contained, scalable and portable. Applications can be started, stopped, managed, copied or even exported to another virtual environment without modifications.”
Tim continued, “With Netcetera’s Cloud Platform, most application management tasks can be undertaken while the system is running - you can add or remove servers at will, monitor the hardware, install software and perform back-ups all from a single point of control.”
“Basing applications in the cloud keeps down costs, makes application management much more manageable and, because it’s so easy to add appliances, it’s ideal for fast-growing businesses.”
